I’m Phillippa, a self-taught surface pattern designer living in Marondera, Zimbabwe and the creative behind Phillippa Jane Designs.
Mechanical engineer turned artist.
I stumbled across printmaking and printed textiles during our very first lockdown in 2020. Starting out with the basic equipment to screen print fabric, I soon discovered that having the hands-on skills to print was one thing, but that the design itself was whole new skillset. I eagerly began taking every illustration and surface pattern design class I could find.
Most of my sketches start out on paper, usually progressing to the iPad and finishing off on Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop on the computer. I like to layer with textures, cut paper effects and hand painted watercolours. Combining traditional & digital elements to add depth.
My art is a little window into my life. I’m hoping that some of what speaks to me; the colours, the smells, the sights, the nostalgia, will resonate with others.
I’m so glad you found your way to my little ‘corner of the internet’. Stay a while and take a look around.
